After implementing London's transport agency's rechargeable RFID Oyster Credit card for users to use on the Tube, contactless technology quickly gained popularity in the UK. Commuters have had the option of using contactless cards on the public transportation system since the agency began offering the service in 2014.

Pros and Cons of Making Payments Via Contactless

Electromagnetic striping on the backside of credit and debit cards may be read by thieves, allowing them to copy the card information. The use of contactless payment methods reduces the amount of risk that is taken on by the consumer as well as the retailer.
